reconnect

~ ~

I've been getting the urge to reconnect with a lot of things lately–friends that I dearly miss from college, friends from high school that stayed in touch though I fell out of the picture, my grandparents. I've had dreams about it. I started worrying. Am I a horrible person? Were my friends anxious to lose touch with me, and I was just completely unaware? Could this mean that I am still, without realizing it, a horrible person?
Probably. We're all horrible people. We're all beautiful people. That's just what it is. But as I've been writing and journaling more, as I've taken more time to reflect and catch up on letters and e-mails to friends, those feelings have died down. I'm still itching to reconnect with my close friends and family, but that's getting there, too... because...
We are reconnected to the Internet. There are all sorts of reconnections in the works–like today, reconnecting to Nancy after weeks hiding away in our apartment. Joe and I are heading the the Lorraine Museum this afternoon, in the old palace of the Dukes, to learn more about our region of France. This place was happening up until, well, the end of the industrial boom of the 20th century. There should be loads of glorious things inside.
To deal with my feelings of homesickness, anxiety about the immediate future and my need to feel close to people, I'm starting another (genius) 30-day challenge. This one was brought to my attention by an inspired, rather incredible writer that I got to know in college. Ashley has an amazing voice, a fragility in everything she writes that somehow makes her characters seem even stronger–it seems like a contradiction, I know, but trust me.

So Ashley started her 30-day challenge, and I'm going to follow suit. Check out Ashley's progress on Phat & Sassy, and keep up with mine right here. Here's what the next 30 days will look like, with extra posts about life, France and the food we're filling our bellies with:
Day 1. Your Best Friend
Day 2. Your Crush
Day 3. Your parents
Day 4. Your sibling
